Defined by its foreshore geometry and exposure to southerly winds, this Cronulla home uses two offset pavilions, robust masonry and integrated gardens to create privacy, shelter and outlook – balancing coastal exposure with a calm, family-focused interior environment.
Set adjacent to a wooded foreshore reserve the house is carefully calibrated to negotiate privacy, wind and aspect. The planning responds directly to these conditions, organising the home into two distinct pavilions to accommodate parents and young adults, while maintaining connection through a central, light-filled garden.

This garden is both spatial and environmental – bringing daylight deep into the plan, enabling cross-ventilation and creating visual connections between living areas. A split-level arrangement follows the natural fall of the site allowing spaces to step with the terrain. Living areas are elevated to the first floor to capture northern light, water views and separation from the public edge.

Material selection reinforces durability and enduring performance. Speciality Krause bricks – used inside and out  – combine with board-formed concrete to provide resilience in the coastal environment, while deep-set openings and timber screens offer solar control and privacy. Elevated gardens act as a further buffer, further settling the house into the landscape while ensuring a sheltered, private living environment.
